Williams Paces Women's Basketball Again Versus Virginia State
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Dec. 15, 2012) – Senior guard Aysha Williams (New Rochelle, N.Y.) scored in double digits for the sixth time this season as the Mercy College women's basketball team hosted Virginia State University on Saturday night.
The Trojans slowly separated from the Mavericks throughout the first half, leading by as much as 21 before Mercy cut the deficit back to 17 at halftime. VSU kept the pressure on through the second half, eventually winning 84-44 to improve to 6-3 on the season while Mercy dropped to 0-8.
Williams led the Mavericks with 10 points while junior guard Maria Nardulli (Staten Island, N.Y.) grabbed seven rebounds. The pair tied for the team lead in assists (two) and steals (two) as well.
Junior forward Lamesha Deal (Norfolk, Va.) recorded a double-double with 23 points and 14 rebound for the Trojans as senior guard Jasmine Stewart (Washington, D.C.) also scored 10 points and tied for the team lead in assists (three) and steals (two).
Head Coach Rashidi Aikens and the Mavericks will enjoy a two-week break before hosting Chestnut Hill College on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 12:30 p.m.
