Williams Leads Trio of Mavericks in Double Digits As Women's Basketball Hosts Chestnut Hill
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Dec. 29, 2012) – Senior guard Aysha Williams (New Rochelle, N.Y.) scored 14 points for her seventh double-digit game of the season as the Mercy College women's basketball team hosted Chestnut Hill College on Saturday afternoon following a two-week hiatus over Winter Break.
The Griffins maintained a slim lead early, but a five-point run capped by a three-pointer from junior guard Alexis Monserrate (Locust Valley, N.Y.) gave the Mavericks a two-point edge midway through the first half. Chestnut Hill regained the lead but freshman guard Danielle Losee (Merrick, N.Y.) broke a tie to put Mercy back up with 3:11 to play in the half. The Griffins scored the final eight points of the half, however, including a pair of threes by sophomore guard Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, N.J.) to take a five-point lead into the break.
The Mavericks cut the deficit to four on several occasions but could not get any closer. Chestnut Hill eventually rattled off a 16-4 run to take their first double-digit lead of the game and led by as many as 17 points before closing things out, 70-56.
Chestnut Hill broke their nine-game losing streak, improving to 2-10 on the season while Mercy dropped to 0-9.
