Men's Basketball Concludes 2012 at Le Moyne in Syracuse, N.Y.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Dec. 30, 2012) - On Sunday, the Mercy College men's basketball team closed out its 2012 portion of the schedule at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, N.Y., falling to the Dolphins, 67-56. With the win, the Dolphins improved to 6-3 overall. Following the loss, the Mavericks dropped to 1-9 on the year.

Mercy played extremely well in the opening half as the Mavericks had a 29-26 lead heading into halftime. Mercy hit 77.8% of its free throws in the first half, to go along with a 40% clip from behind the arc.

Following a Khiry Gordon (Philadelphia, Pa.) dunk with 7:33 remaining in the second half, the Mavericks pulled ahead 48-44. Mercy played incredibly well against a tough Dolphins' squad and held a lead as late as 4:07.

However, the Dolphins reeled off a 10-2 run over the next three minutes to take a 60-54 advantage. Mercy wasn't able to bounce back as Le Moyne hit most of its free throws in the last minute of the contest.

For Mercy, Gordon tied for the team-lead with junior Remi Mignott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each scoring 12 points. Junior Kirk Bailey (Freeport, N.Y.) contributed 10 points. To complete the double-double, Gordon brought down 10 rebounds, in addition to four steals and three blocks.

For Le Moyne, Nate Champion netted 16 points, while Brian Zapisek and Jim Janson had 12 each.

Head Coach Adam Parmenter and the Mavericks return to action on Saturday, Jan. 5 when they host the University of Bridgeport in East Coast Conference play. Game time is slated for 2:30 p.m.
