Men's Basketball Stopped by No. 22 University of District of Columbia
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Feb. 15, 2012) – On Wednesday evening, in the Mercy College men's basketball team's penultimate home game this year, the Mavericks were topped by No. 22 the University of the District of Columbia, 111-68, at Mercy Gymnasium in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. With the win, the Firebirds improved to 20-3 overall and 11-2 in the East Coast Conference. Following the defeat, the Mavericks slipped to 3-20 on the season and 2-11 in the league.
The Firebirds jumped out to a 10-2 lead the start the game. The Mavericks had a really difficult time stopping the up-tempo play and offensive momentum UDC brought north from our nation's capital. Mercy couldn't find any sort of rhythm and went into halftime trailing, 52-29.
The second half was the same story. UDC eclipsed its highest-scoring total of the year by one as the Firebirds went on to win, 111-68.
For the Mavericks, junior forward Joseph Pope (Akron, Ohio) scored a season-high 17 points, while junior guard Colin Senior (Hackensack, N.J.) contributed 13. Senior also paced the team with three steals.
The Firebirds, who shot 69% from field goal range tonight, had five players in double-digits scoring. Senior guard Brandon Herbert (Baltimore, Md.) had the game-high with 24 points, while fellow senior guard Nigel Munson (Washington, D.C.) had 21. Senior guard Dishawn Bradshaw (Baltimore, Md.) popped in 20 points.
Head Coach Adam Parmenter and the Mavericks return to action on Saturday, Feb. 18 when they venture over the bridge to play the Knights of Queens College.
