DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Feb. 4, 2012) – The Mercy College men's basketball squad fell to East Coast Conference-opponent New York Institute of Technology this afternoon, 90-79, at Mercy Gymnasium in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. With the win, the Bears improved to 8-11 on the campaign and moved to 5-5 in the league. Following the loss, the Mavericks slipped to 3-18 overall (2-9 ECC).

The first half was virtually even the entire way. Each team led by no more than three points. The Bears headed into the intermission holding a 42-39 advantage.

The second stanza wasn't as kind to the Mavericks. Over the first 10 minutes of the second half the Mavericks trailed by just six at the most. However, after 10 minutes went by, Mercy started stumbling into problems. The hosts had a hard time stopping the Bears' momentum as NYIT ripped off an 8-1 run to make the score 74-61 (with 7:12 left).

From that point on, NYIT piled on some more baskets to pave the way for a 90-79 victory.

For the Mavericks, junior guard Colin Senior (Hackensack, N.J.) finished with a contest-best 23 points, while junior forward Joseph Pope (Akron, Ohio) added 14. Sophomore forward Jordan Lee (Englewood, N.J.) and sophomore guard Chaz Morrish (Douglaston, N.Y.) each had 10 points. Pope and Senior nearly recorded double-doubles as they brought down nine and eight rebounds, respectively.

For the Bears, Jahleel Felix had 22 points, while Antoine Brown scored 19. Dominic Scurry and David Naves contributed 15 and 11 points, respectively. Azel Prather Jr. crashed the boards for a game-high 13 rebounds.

Head Coach Adam Parmenter and the Mavericks return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 8 when they venture to Long Island to take on C.W. Post for an ECC contest. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
