Tyler Savin Pitches Eight Innings of One-Hit Ball but Baseball Takes 3-2 Loss to Nyack
Box Score FT. PIERCE, Fla. (Mar. 14, 2012) – Senior pitcher Tyler Savin (Wantagh, N.Y.) handed a two-run lead to his bullpen in the ninth inning after giving up just one hit through eight, but Nyack College was able to score three runs in the ninth to steal the win from the Mercy College baseball team, 3-2, in Florida on Wednesday afternoon.
Nyack improves to 7-4 on the year while Mercy drops to 0-8.
Savin was incredible on the mound, fanning a career-high 10 batters and giving up just the lone hit in eight dominant innings. Freshman designated hitter Bryan Greig (New City, N.Y.) and sophomore first baseman Jesus Jaile (Hartsdale, N.Y.) each recorded RBI-singles to give the Mavericks the two-run edge heading into the ninth, but the bullpen was unable to close the game out as the Warriors pushed across three runs to take the game.
Head Coach Bob Greiner and the Mavericks will look to bounce back on Thursday, March 15 when they face Southern Connecticut State University in a doubleheader. Opening pitches are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
