CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Mar. 20, 2012) - On Monday evening, the East Coast Conference office issued its Week Two softball awards and Mercy College freshman Jackie Couillard (Wolcott, Conn.) earned Rookie of the Week honors, while sophomore pitcher Alexandra Puglisi (Shelton, Conn.) was selected to the Player of the Week Honor Roll.

Couillard hit .440 for the week and drove in 10 runs, scored six times, smacked a pair of home runs, had three doubles, and walked twice. She helped the Mavericks go 7-4 over that span. Her on-base percentage was .500, while her slugging percentage was .800.

The Wolcott native is tied for the league-lead in RBI (10), ranks second in homers (2), slots third in batting average (.440), and is tied for fourth in doubles (3).

Puglisi had four starts this week (and two bullpen appearances) and in those games she went 3-2 and notched a dazzling 1.00 ERA over 27.0 innings pitched. The only extra base hits she allowed were two doubles. In those 27.0 innings, the Shelton native struck out 34 batters. Against Philadelphia University, Puglisi pitched a two-hit, complete game shutout surrendering only one run. Also, versus Bentley University, she spun an absolute gem -- a one-hitter.

Puglisi currently leads the conference in ERA (0.72), slots third in strikeouts-per-game (8.83), and ranks fourth in strikeouts (37).

Head Coach Mike Fazio and the Mavericks return to the field later today when they play at Dowling College in ECC doubleheader action. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
