DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Mar. 27, 2012) – On Tuesday afternoon, the Mercy College softball team dropped a pair of East Coast Conference games against C.W. Post, 12-1 and 6-2. With the wins, the Pioneers saw their record improve to 16-10 on the year and 4-0 in the league. Following the defeats, the Mavericks slipped to 12-11 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

Game One: C.W. Post 12, Mercy 1

This contest was all C.W. Post as the Pioneers scored in all five innings. After two innings, the Mavericks were down 7-1 and they were never able to climb out of that hole.

For Mercy, sophomore starter Mary Sieber (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) struggled in the circle, surrendering seven runs (six earned) in 1.1 innings. Sophomore Brittany Serrao (Lake Hiawatha, N.J.) and freshman Shelby Johnson (Bullhead City, Ariz.) came out of the bullpen and allowed five runs in 3.2 innings, but all were unearned. The Mercy defense had four errors in the game.

Game Two: C.W. Post 6, Mercy 2

Down 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, senior centerfielder Jenna Ausiello (Petaluma, Calif.) cranked a game-tying, two-run homer to deep left field. Ausiello, fresh off being named the ECC Co-Player of the Week, continued to add to her superb season numbers.

The Mavericks, however, weren't able to hold the tie as the Pioneers plated four in the next inning. Starting the game for Mercy, sophomore hurler Alexandra Puglisi (Shelton, Conn.) gave up six runs in 4.1 innings of work. Sieber came on in relief to throw 2.2 shutout frames.

Head Coach Mike Fazio and his troops return to the field on Thursday, March 29 when they square off against the University of Bridgeport in ECC action. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
