Znaniecki Records 20 Saves in Field Hockey's 3-1 Loss to Swarthmore
Box Score MADISON, N.J. (Sept. 2, 2012) - The Mercy College field hockey team's defensive unit played solid once again, but ultimately the Mavericks fell to Swarthmore College, 3-1 at the Drew Fall Festival in Madison, N.J. Junior goalkeeper Kristen Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) stopped 20 shots on the day.
Nearly four minutes into the game, Mercy (0-2) jumped on the scoreboard first when junior transfer Nicole Bencsik (Telford, Pa.) scored her first goal in a Mavericks uniform. That lead was short-lived, however, as Swarthmore (2-0) tied the game at 1-all about five minutes later.
Both teams' offensive weapons were shut down for the remainder of the first half as the game went to halftime tied at 1-1.
A pair of tallies in the second half for Swarthmore sealed the win, 3-1.
Head Coach Kayte Kinsley and the Mavericks return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Purchase, N.Y. to battle Manhattanville College. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
