Women's Soccer Receives Goals from Vega, Cochrane Against Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Sept. 21, 2012) - On Friday afternoon, the Mercy College women's soccer team battled the newest member of the East Coast Conference, Roberts Wesleyan College, but fell, 3-2 in double-overtime. With the win, Roberts Wesleyan improved to 7-2-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference. With the loss, Mercy slipped to 2-6 on the year and 0-2 in league play.

Roberts Wesleyan kicked off the scoring with a goal in the 30th minute. Following the intermission, junior Jennifer Vega (Norwalk, Calif.) found the equalizer and tied the game at 1-1 in the 50th minute.

Six minutes later, Mercy grabbed a 2-1 lead off a tally by Mackenzie Cochrane (Mission Viejo, Calif.). She was assisted on the play by Lisa Shaw (South Pasadena, Calif.).

Brittany Kinmond scored for the hosts to knot the score at 2-2 and send it into overtime. Kinmond also scored the game-winner in the 102nd minute.

Mercy held the advantage in corner kicks (6-4). Between the pipes, freshman goalkeeper Cyera Smith (Jacksonville, Fla.) made four saves.

Head Coach Jonathan Feinstein and the Mavericks return to action on Monday when they host East Stroudsburg University at 4:00 p.m. on campus.
