Field Hockey Shuts Out Daniel Webster; Wins 3-0
Box Score NASHUA, N.H. (Sept. 21, 2012) - On Friday afternoon, the Mercy College field hockey squad defeated Daniel Webster College, 3-0 in Nashua, N.H. Three different Mavericks scored on the day as a whole team effort was effective in taking down the Eagles. With the win, the Mavericks improved to 1-5 overall. Following the loss, the Eagles dropped to 0-4 on the year.
In the 29th minute of the game, sophomore forward Yolie Nyero (Carlisle, Pa.) received a feed from fellow sophomore Marissa Kluber (Wading River, N.Y.) and fired it into the back of the netting for Mercy's first goal of the afternoon.
Following halftime, senior Callie Schwichtenberg (San Diego, Calif.) notched the Mavericks' second marker with a goal in the 45th minute. Junior Nicole Bencsik (Telford, Pa.) had the assist.
Three minutes later, Kluber scored her first goal of the year, with the assist coming from Bencsik.
In net, junior Kristen Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) shut down the Eagles' offense and made seven saves.
Mercy held the advantage in penalty corners (17-7) and shots (14-8).
Head Coach Kayte Kinsley and her troops return to the field to open up the home portion of their 2012 schedule on Sunday. The Mavericks will host Limestone College on the campus' new turf field at 12:00 p.m.
