Women's Soccer Thumps No. 17 East Stroudsburg, 3-1
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2012) - On Monday afternoon, the Mercy College women's soccer team defeated No. 17 East Stroudsburg University, 3-1 at Mavericks Field. With the win, the Mavericks improved to 3-6 overall, while the Warriors fell to 4-1-2 on the year.
In the 27th minute, sophomore MacKenzie Cochrane (Mission Viejo, Calif.) nailed it past the goalkeeper after one touch. Lisa Shaw (South Pasadena, Calif.) had the assist on the through-ball.
East Stroudsburg then found the equalizer in the 44th minute off a penalty kick.
Following halftime, Mercy grabbed the lead back. In the 65th minute, junior Crystal Mena (Newport Beach, Calif.) was given the chance to cancel-out the prior penalty kick and she answered strongly with a rocket to the left of the goalkeeper. Shaw then scored an insurance goal in the 87th minute. Freshman Dawn Hickey (Bohemia, N.Y.) was credited with the assist.
In goal, senior Stephanie DiLegge (Bay Shore, N.Y.) was stellar making two saves and looking strong in her season debut.
Head Coach Jonathan Feinstein and the Mavericks return to action on Wednesday when they host ECC-foe NYIT at 2:30 p.m.
