Field Hockey Battles Adelphi Under the Lights
Box Score GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Sept. 26, 2012) - On Wednesday evening, the Mercy College field hockey team battled Adelphi University under the lights in Garden City, N.Y. The Panthers ultimately won, 4-1, improving their overall record to 2-8. With the defeat, the Mavericks fell to 1-7 on the season.
The Panthers struck early and jumped on the scoreboard in the fourth minute of play. Emilee Rahner scooped up a loose ball in front of the goal and flicked it in past Mercy junior goalkeeper Kristen Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.).
Mercy then knotted the game at 1-1 in the 17th minute when sophomore Marissa Kluber (Wading River, N.Y.) scored her second marker of the year. Fellow sophomore Yolie Nyero (Carlisle, Pa.) had the assist.
Adelphi added a second goal before halftime to take a 2-1 lead going into the intermission. The Panthers were able to record two more insurance goals in the second half and went on to secure a 4-1 victory.
For the Mavericks in net, Znaniecki stopped four saves.
Head Coach Kayte Kinsley and her team return to action on Sunday when they host Assumption College on the campus' turf field. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
