Mena, Cochrane Comprise Scoring Tandem Once Again for Women's Soccer vs. Queens

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Sept. 29, 2012) - On Saturday afternoon, the Mercy College women's soccer squad received goals from junior Crystal Mena (Newport Beach, Calif.) and sophomore MacKenzie Cochrane (Mission Viejo, Calif.), but it wasn't enough as the Knights of Queens College won, 3-2 in Flushing, N.Y. The Knights improved to 6-2-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the East Coast Conference, while the Mavericks fell to 3-8 on the year and 0-4 in the league.

Queens scored first in the 15th minute of play off a goal from Janine Guerra. Mercy answered back when Cochrane netted a marker in the 31st minute.

However, the Knights took the lead back just two minutes later when Kristina Ikonomou found the back of the netting.

Following halftime, Mena found the second Mercy equalizer in the 49th minute when she scored on a free kick from 25 yards out.

The Mercy defense held the Knights at bay until the 71st minute when Sarah Boucher scored the go-ahead goal for Queens. The hosts held on to the 3-2 advantage for the remaining 19 minutes of the game to secure the victory.

In goal, senior Stephanie DiLegge (Bay Shore, N.Y.) stopped three shots, while Queens goalkeeper Allison Breakey made four saves.

Head Coach Jonathan Feinstein and the Mavericks return to action on Wednesday when they host LIU Post in ECC action beginning at 1:30 p.m.
