Hopkins Posts Seventh Total and Second Consecutive Double-Digit Dig Performance at ECC Rival Queens
Box Score FLUSHING, N.Y. (Sept. 29, 2012) – Junior libero Mallorie Hopkins (Commerce, Calif.) posted her second consecutive and seventh double-digit dig game of the year as the Mercy College volleyball team dropped an East Coast Conference match at Queens College early Saturday afternoon.
Mercy falls to 2-11 overall and 0-4 in the ECC while Queens improves to 2-13 (2-3).
The Mavericks picked up the first two points of the match but the Knights quickly took control and built up to a 25-16 victory in the first set. Queens carried its dominant play straight through the second set, starting out with a six-point run, building up to a 13-1 lead and closing things out at 25-10 to take the 2-0 match lead. The Mavericks kept things closer early in the third set at 6-6 but a 12-2 run all but decided things as the Knights went on to win 25-19.
Sophomore outside hitter Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev.) and junior outside hitter Nicolette Gebhardt (Pine Bush, N.Y.) led the Mavericks with eight and seven kills, respectively, while sophomore setter McKenna Ronan (Chandler, Ariz.) made 15 assists and Hopkins led the match with 12 digs.
Freshman right-side hitter Arielle DiCoco (Blue Point, N.Y.) led the Knights with 10 kills as junior setter Ceren Kilic (Istanbul, Turkey) made 22 assists and senior outside hitter Suzanne Byrne (Richmond, B.C.) recorded nine digs.
Head Coach Taneisha Cantave and the Mavericks will look to bounce back at the University of Bridgeport (10-2, 3-0) on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 7:00 p.m. Match viewing will be available through LiveStats.
