Field Hockey Ties High-Watermark of Year with Three Goal Output vs. Assumption
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Sept. 30, 2012) - On Sunday afternoon, the Mercy College field hockey team tied its highest scoring output of the year with three goals against Assumption College at Mavericks Field in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. However, the Greyhounds' offense was able to get past the Mavericks and score seven times for a 7-3 triumph.
Assumption jumped on the scoreboard early as the Greyhounds scored 28 seconds into the contest. Six minutes later, however, Mercy sophomore Marissa Kluber (Wading River, N.Y.) netted the equalizer for her third goal of the year, which leads the team.
Assumption and Mercy traded goals again as the Greyhounds scored in the eighth minute to take a brief 2-1 lead. The Mavericks then scored off a marker by sophomore Danielle Jones (Shrewsbury, Mass.) to tie the game up again at 2-2.
The Greyhounds were able to reel off a 3-0 run before halftime to take a 5-2 advantage.
Following the intermission, Assumption scored two more times, while Mercy found its third goal from junior Tracey Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.).
In goal, freshman Jacque Tworkowski (South Berwick, Maine) played 40 minutes making two saves. For the Greyhounds, Lauren Neilan stopped one shot.
Head Coach Kayte Kinsley and the Mavericks return to action on Sunday, Oct. 7 when they host Saint Anselm at 1:00 p.m.
