DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Jan. 12, 2013) – Senior forward MarQuesha Moore (Bryans Road, Md.) posted the team's first double-double of the season as the Mercy College women's basketball team hosted East Coast Conference foe St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans surged ahead, 20-9, on an 11-3 run early in the first half and led by 19 at halftime.  STAC quickly went up by 23 in the second half before the Mavericks scored eight straight points to cut the deficit to just 14.  That was as close as Mercy would get, however, as STAC went on to win, 69-49.  The Spartans got over .500 on the season at 8-7 overall and 4-1 in the ECC with the victory, while Mercy dropped to 0-12 (0-5).

Moore led the Mavericks in all five major statistical categories with 13 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, three blocks and three steals, tying with junior guard Maria Nardulli (Staten Island, N.Y.) in swipes.  Sophomore forward Shaniqua Lewis (Staten Island, N.Y.) also scored in double digits with 12 points.

Sophomore guard Sara Oliveira (Portugal) led the Spartans, who were missing their leading scorer for the second consecutive game, with 21 points, including a 5-10 mark from three-point range.  Freshman forward Ashley Motrechuk (Staten Island, N.Y.) also scored in double digits with 13 points and blocked four shots while freshman forward Alyson Brennan (Hicksville, N.Y.) just missed a double-double with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.  Junior guard Bianca Kowgios (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) dished out five assists in the win.

Head Coach Rashidi Aikens and the Mavericks will head to ECC foe LIU Post (10-3, 3-2) on Wednesday, Jan. 16 for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
