BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 16, 2013) – Senior guard Aysha Williams (New Rochelle, N.Y.) posted the Mavericks' second consecutive double-double as the women's basketball team took on East Coast Conference adversary LIU Post, which received a vote in the past week's national poll, on Wednesday evening.

The Pioneers took an early 14-2 lead and used an 18-1 run shortly after to storm to a 54-23 lead at halftime.  Mercy attempted to rally in the second half, scoring the first six points and eventually cutting the deficit to 20 with 11:13 remaining, but the Mavericks could not get any closer, eventually falling 87-51.

LIU Post improved to 11-3 overall and 4-2 in the ECC while Mercy dropped to 0-13 (0-6).

Williams led the team with 16 points and 11 rebounds to record her second career double-double and the second in as many games for the Mavericks, following Saturday's performance by senior forward MarQuesha Moore (Bryans Road, Md.).  Williams also tied for the team lead in assists (one) and steals (two), with Moore also making two steals while adding eight points and six rebounds.

Junior forward Shayna Gatling (Baldwin, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with 23 points off the bench as junior guard Jackie Connell (Westbury, N.Y.) and senior forward Nicolette Marciniak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also scored in double digits with 12 and 10 points in just 18 and 14 minutes, respectively.  Junior center Nijah LaCourt (Bronx, N.Y.) pulled down an incredible 11 rebounds and made four steals in just 16 minutes.

Head Coach Rashidi Aikens and the Mavericks will host Dowling College (12-2, 6-0) in another ECC matchup on Saturday, Jan. 19.  The 12:30 p.m. tipoff will precede the men's game, which tips off at 2:30 p.m.
