Men's Basketball Squares Off Against ECC-Rival Molloy

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Jan. 23, 2013) - On Wednesday evening, the Mercy College men's basketball team took on Molloy College in East Coast Conference action in Rockville Centre, Long Island. The Lions defeated the Mavericks, 86-56 at Quealy Gymnasium. With the win, Molloy improved to 11-5 (7-1 ECC), while the Mavericks slipped to 1-15 (0-8 ECC).

Halfway through the opening half, the Lions started building a lead that would end up being too much for the Mavericks to make a comeback from. At the intermission, Molloy was in front, 44-25.

Mercy actually had a better field goal percentage in the second period (44.4% to 41.2%), but it wasn't enough. 

In all for the Mavericks, senior Joseph Pope (Akron, Ohio) finished with 10 points, while senior Jerrell Lawrence (Baldwin, N.Y.) netted nine and junior Kirk Bailey (Freeport, N.Y.) had eight. 

For Molloy, John Petrucelli scored a game-high 16 points, while Brandon Williams had 15. Jimmy Nolan and Matt McLeod scored 12 and 11, respectively. 

Head Coach Adam Parmenter and the Mavericks return to action on Saturday when they host Queens College at 3:00 p.m.
