Williams Pours in 17 as Women's Basketball Hosts ECC Rival Queens
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Jan. 26, 2013) – Senior guard Aysha Williams (New Rochelle, N.Y.) poured in 17 points as the Mercy College women's basketball team hosted East Coast Conference rival Queens College on Saturday afternoon.
Mercy got out to an early lead and held on through the first 10 minutes before Queens fought back into the mix, taking the lead with 8:35 to play in the first half. The Mavericks regained the lead shortly after but the Knights rattled off 11 unanswered points to go up by eight with two minutes remaining and led by 10 at halftime. Queens scored the first eight points of the second half to take a commanding lead and held on through the end, winning 63-47.
Queens improved to 7-9 overall and 4-5 in the ECC while Mercy dropped to 0-17 (0-9).
Williams led the Mavericks with 17 points on an impressive 66.7 percent shooting from the field and added four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Sophomore forward Shaniqua Lewis (Staten Island, N.Y.) grabbed seven rebounds and made two steals while senior forward MarQuesha Moore (Bryans Road, Md.) put up eight points with four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Redshirt senior guard Bria Jackson (Rochester, N.Y.) flirted with a triple-double for the Queens, dropping 22 points while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out eight dimes. Redshirt senior Lisanne Comeau (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Joya McFarland (Bronx, N.Y.) quietly came close to a triple-double as well with eight points, seven rebounds and six assists while also making three steals in only 23 minutes on the court.
Head Coach Rashidi Aikens and the Mavericks will host Roberts Wesleyan College (9-8, 4-6) on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 5:30 p.m.
