DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 5, 2013) – Junior Danny Leon Jr. (Flushing, N.Y. / Benjamin Cardozo) and freshman Michael Ledesma (Miami Beach, Fla. / Miami Beach Senior) each scored a goal as the Mercy College men's soccer team remained unbeaten at home on the season with a 2-0 shutout of East Coast Conference rival Queens College on Saturday afternoon.

Mercy, which ranked No. 5 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) East Region Poll, improves to 7-2-1 overall and 3-2 in the ECC, good for fourth place.  Queens suffers its first loss in conference play, dropping to 6-2-2 (2-1-1) and ranking third in the ECC.

Leon Jr. scored in the eighth minute on a penalty kick to put Mercy up 1-0.  Senior Nick Papas (Castleton, N.Y. / Hudson Valley CC) was tested just minutes later, but came up with the save – his first of just two on the day as the Mavericks back line performed as well as it has all season.

Ledesma notched the insurance goal in the 64th minute and the Mavericks outlasted the Knights in the evenly matched affair, with Mercy holding a slight edge in shots, 11-9.

Head Coach Chris Smith and the Mavericks will host Caldwell College (4-6) on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 3 p.m.
