DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 31, 2013) – The Mercy College men's soccer team will host East Coast Conference foe Daemen College on Friday, Nov. 1 at 2:30 p.m.  The Mavericks will also be celebrating Senior Day to recognize the team's five senior student-athletes for their contributions over their careers at Mercy.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the new ECC rivals.  The Wildcats have posted a 4-11-1 record overall but are winless in their new conference at 0-7-1, picking up just a tie against a travel-weary University of the District of Columbia last time out.  Daemen jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a late first-half goal by senior Kyle Clifford and a 61st-minute strike by freshman Alex Reid, with senior Zakariah Hall getting the assist on the corner kick.  UDC rallied to score two goals as well before regulation ended and after two overtime periods, both teams left with a point.  Junior Daniel Romer made nine saves between the posts for the Wildcats.

On the season, Clifford leads the squad with 22 points on 10 goals and two assists while Reid has totaled 15 points on six goals and three assists.  Romer has recorded a 3.11 goals against average on a .630 save percentage in just under 300 minutes net, splitting time with junior Matt Daddario, who has recorded a 3.05 goals against average on a .624 save percentage over 1,200 minutes.

The Mavericks are coming off a tie against UDC that ran their record to 9-3-4 overall and 3-2-3 in ECC play.  Mercy must now win both its remaining games against the bottom two teams in the conference standings to qualify for either the #3 or #4 seed in the ECC Championship, depending on the result the University of Bridgeport gets on Saturday, Nov. 2.  A breakdown of the ECC Championship qualifying scenarios can be found here.

Sophomore Christian Diaz (Watsonville, Calif. / Univ. of Vermont) still leads the Mavericks with 17 points on seven goals – including three game-winners – and three assists despite missing three games and being limited in two due to injury.  Juniors Danny Leon Jr. (Flushing, N.Y. / Benjamin Cardozo) and Roberto Dashi (Nyack, N.Y. / Clarkstown South) have each totaled 10 points, with Leon Jr. also notching three game-winning goals.  Senior Nick Papas (Castleton, N.Y. / Hudson Valley CC) leads the ECC with a .839 save percentage and has recorded a 0.88 goals against average, including seven shutouts.

Head Coach Chris Smith and the Mavericks will host Daemen on Friday, Nov. 1 at 2:30 p.m.
