DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Nov. 14, 2013) – Junior Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev. / Douglas) recorded her third consecutive and 13th double-double of the year as the Mercy College volleyball team closed out its season hosting the East Coast Conference-leading University of Bridgeport on Thursday night.

Mercy fell in three sets to end the year with an 11-20 overall record and 2-14 mark in ECC play, while Bridgeport finished the regular season 18-2 (14-1) and will prepare for the ECC Championship as the top seed.

The Mavericks led 5-3 early in the first set, but the Purple Knights took control quickly, rattling off nine straight points and going on to clock in the 25-13 victory.

Bridgeport held a slim lead early in the second set before four consecutive points put the Purple Knights in front by six at 14-8.  Mercy began to build up a rally, however, and finally tied things up at 22-22.  Bridgeport scored the next two points to serve with set point, but the Mavericks iced the server and took the next three points to serve with set point themselves at 26-25.  Unfortunately for Mercy, Bridgeport would score two more and finish the set off with a block to take the set, 28-26.

The rivals traded points almost all the way through the third set before Bridgeport scored four of the final five points to squeak out the 25-20 victory and come away with the match.

White led the Mavericks with 12 kills and tied for the team lead in digs (11) with senior Mallorie Hopkins (Commerce, Calif. / Pasadena City College).  Junior McKenna Ronan (Chandler, Ariz. / Seton Catholic Prep) made 24 assists as senior Nicolette Gebhardt (Bloomingburg, N.Y. / Pine Bush) smacked 10 kills and junior Sonia Morales (San Fernando, Calif. / L.A. Mission College) recorded five blocks.

White finishes the season with her second 500-kill season, totaling 507 this year on a career-high .211 hitting percentage, and her second 300-dig season, as she closes with 311.  Ronan broke the 1,000-assist plateau, making 1,056 over the year at an average of 9.03 per set, and Hopkins led the team with 538 digs, nearly double last year's total.
