White's 27-Kill Double-Double Leads Volleyball to 3-1 Win Over Dominican

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Nov. 4, 2013) – Junior Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev. / Douglas) put in an phenomenal performance to lead the Mercy College volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Dominican College on Monday night.  White posted her 11th double-double and sixth 20-kill effort, smacking 27 kills on an incredible .457 hitting percentage in the victory.

Mercy improves to 10-16 overall while Dominican falls to 6-22.

Mercy got out to an early lead in the first set and built on it throughout the set, taking the 1-0 match lead with a 25-18 victory.  The Mavericks quickly jumped out to a four-point lead at 8-4 in the second set but the Chargers found their footing and tied things up at 15-15.  Mercy recovered, however, to go on to the 25-20 win.

Dominican responded to the two-set deficit by taking a 6-2 lead to start the third set, but Mercy was quick to tie it up at 8-8.  The opponents traded points through to a 16-16 tie, when the Chargers took hold of the set at 19-17 and held a one-point lead through to a 25-23 victory.

The Mavericks surged to a five-point lead at 12-7 in the fourth set, but found themselves in a three-point hole after eight unanswered Chargers points.  Dominican held its lead until Mercy tied things up at 21-21 and went on to clinch the match with a 25-23 victory.

White completed the double-double with 12 digs and her match-leading 27 kills were followed by 14 from senior Nicolette Gebhardt (Bloomingburg, N.Y. / Pine Bush).  Junior McKenna Ronan (Chandler, Ariz. / Seton Catholic Prep) posted her 10th match with at a 10-assist-per-set average, making 46, and senior Mallorie Hopkins (Commerce, Calif. / Pasadena City College) led the match with 17 digs.

Freshman McKenzie John also posted a double-double for the Chargers with team-highs in kills (17) and digs (12), while sophomore Amanda Hallstein and freshman Kera Dexter combined for 39 assists and sophomore Tori Dexter recorded 10 digs.

Head Coach Kelly Wengerter and the Mavericks will host Bloomfield College (4-21) on Thursday, Nov. 7 7 p.m.
