Williams and Moore Lead Women's Basketball in ECC Matchup at STAC
Box Score SPARKILL, N.Y. (Feb. 13, 2013) – Senior forward MarQuesha Moore (Bryans Road, Md.) made a surprise return from injury and paired with senior guard Aysha Williams (New Rochelle, N.Y.) to lead the Mercy College women's basketball team against East Coast Conference opponent St. Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday night.
Mercy fell behind 13-0 from the outset but went on an 8-2 run to halve the deficit. The Spartans then rattled off a 29-7 run to take a commanding lead that became 45-19 at halftime. Another 10 straight points to open the second half all but assured STAC of victory, which the Spartans locked up in the end, 86-40. STAC stayed above .500 on the season with the win at 13-11 overall and 9-5 in ECC play, while Mercy dropped to (0-22, 0-14).
Moore and Williams each scored 11 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds to lead the Mavericks, with Williams adding four assists and four steals.
Sophomore forward Ashley Motrechuk (Staten Island, N.Y.) led four Spartans to score in double digits with 16 points, including a perfect 4-4 mark beyond the arc, in just 19 minutes. Freshman forward Alyson Brennan (Hicksville, N.Y.) and junior forward Tatyana Crawford (Paterson, N.J.) each pulled down nine rebounds while senior guard Bianca Kowgios (Yonkers, N.Y.) dished out nine assists and made five steals.
Head Coach Rashidi Aikens and the Mavericks will host ECC foe LIU Post (15-7, 8-6) on Saturday, Feb. 16, which will be celebrated as "Think Pink" Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Tipoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and as always the game will be broadcast live online via this link.
