Williams and Losee Tie Career Highs as Women's Basketball Hosts ECC Foe LIU Post

(Feb. 16, 2013) – Senior guard Aysha Williams (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and freshman guard Danielle Losee (Merrick, N.Y.) each tied their career highs in scoring as the Mercy College women's basketball team hosted East Coast Conference foe LIU Post on Saturday afternoon on "Pink Zone" Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
Mercy fell into a 13-point hole over the first four minutes but climbed back to within seven less than three minutes later. The Pioneers led 21-9 at the 12:34 mark, when the Mavericks started a 15-2 run that put them ahead, 24-23 with 8:37 to play in the first half. LIU Post responded with 12 unanswered points, however, to go up by 11, which Mercy was able to trim to a seven-point deficit at the break. LIU Post slowly built on its lead throughout the second half, eventually winning 83-56.
LIU Post improved to 16-7 overall and 9-6 in ECC play, while Mercy dropped to 0-23 (0-15).
Williams led the team with 21 points, including a perfect 8-8 mark from the charity stripe, and added three rebounds, three assists and three steals while Losee poured in 11, including hitting 3-4 from beyond the arc. Senior forward MarQuesha Moore (Bryans Road, Md.) pulled down five rebounds, made four steals and blocked one shot, all of which led the Mavericks.
Senior forward Nicolette Marciniak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led four Pioneers to score in double digits with 19 points on 8-11 shooting from the field in just 21 minutes while junior forward Dominique Pagan (Bronx, N.Y.) grabbed 10 rebounds in 16 minutes and junior guard Alexis Peters (Dorchester, Mass.) dished out six assist and made six steals.
Head Coach Rashidi Aikens and the Mavericks will welcome ECC rival Molloy College (8-14, 4-10) to Dobbs Ferry on Wednesday, Feb. 20 for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff. As always, the game will be broadcast live online via this link.
