Williams Posts Double-Double for Women's Basketball at ECC Rival Bridgeport
Box Score BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Feb. 6, 2013) – Senior guard Aysha Williams (New Rochele, N.Y.) recorded her second and the Mavericks' fifth double-double of the season as the Mercy College women's basketball team faced East Coast Conference rival the University of Bridgeport in the ECC Doubleheader of the Week on Wednesday night.
The Mavericks fell into a 10-0 hole at the start and found themselves down by 17 at halftime. They would pull back within 14 in the second half but no closer, eventually falling 79-57. Bridgeport improved to 14-7 overall and 9-4 in the ECC while Mercy dropped to 0-20 (0-12).
Williams scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to post the double-double while also adding a season-high-tying five assists. Junior guard Alexis Monserrate (Locust Valley, N.Y.) scored in double digits for the first time in her career, leading the Mavericks with 13 points, and junior guard Maria Nardulli (Staten Island, N.Y.) just missed a double-double of her own with 10 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Shaniqua Lewis (Staten Island, N.Y.) grabbed a team-season-high 14 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.
Graduate wing Priscilla Dodoo (Worcester, Mass.) poured in 19 points to lead a trio of Purple Knights who scored in double digits and added nine rebounds to just fall short of a double-double herself. Senior forward Tanisha Carter (East Hartford, Conn.) netted 11 points and grabbed eight boards while Junior guard Aziza Patterson (Teaneck, N.J.) dished out seven assists.
