Men's Lacrosse Hosts No. 11 St. Michael's College
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Mar. 14, 2013) - On Thursday afternoon, the Mercy College men's lacrosse squad squared off against No. 11 St. Michael's College and dropped the non-conference contest, 14-9. With the win, the Purple Knights improved to 1-1, while the Mavericks dropped to 6-1.
Mercy went up 3-0 in the game's opening 10 minutes, before the Purple Knights grabbed two of those back. In the second quarter, St. Michael's scored five times, while Mercy had three goals. At halftime, the guests led, 7-6.
Where the Purple Knights separated themselves from Mercy for the rest of the affair was in the third quarter. They scored three goals in a matter of seven seconds, very quick off the faceoffs. By the start of the fourth period, the Purple Knights led, 11-7.
St. Michael's put together a productive fourth quarter (outscoring Mercy, 3-2), to lock down the 14-9 victory.
For the Mavericks, sophomore Jesse Wood (Binghamton, N.Y.) scored three goals and dished out one assist, while freshman Kyle Stockton (Medford, N.Y.) notched two goals. Over the first three periods, junior Mike Cashman (Bethpage, N.Y.) manned the cage and had no saves, while rookie netminder A.J. Pellati (West Islip, N.Y.) made three saves in the final quarter.
In all for the Purple Knights, Marty Vanzo had four goals, while Pete Donnally recorded a hat trick. Between the pipes, Chris DeMairo had 16 saves.
Head Coach Jordan Levine and his squad returns to the field on Saturday, Mar. 23 when the Mavericks travel to Long Island to play Dowling College to ignite East Coast Conference action. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
