Men's Basketball Ends 2012-13 Campaign at UDC; Bailey and Pope Notch Double-Doubles
Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. (Mar. 2, 2013) - On Saturday, the Mercy College men's basketball team concluded its 2012-13 campaign with a defeat to the University of the District of Columbia in East Coast Conference action, 106-86. With the victory, the Firebirds improved to 6-20 (5-13 ECC), while the Mavericks fell to 4-22 (3-15 ECC).
Similar to the women's half of this ECC twinbill, the Mavericks were largely outscored by the Firebirds in the first half, 50-29. In the second period, Mercy actually recorded one point more than UDC did (57-56), but it wouldn't be enough to overcome the deficit.
Senior Joseph Pope (Akron, Ohio) concluded his brilliant final season in a Mavericks' uniform by pouring in 25 points and ripping down 10 rebounds, while junior Kirk Bailey (Freeport, N.Y.) had 19 points and 14 rebounds. Graduate student Tracey Lewis (Bronx, N.Y.) had an incredible 18 points off the bench.
For the Firebirds, Michael Terry scored a whopping 38 points, while four other scored in double digits.
