HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (Mar. 24, 2013) - The Mercy College baseball team finished up its four-game East Coast Conference series with Molloy College on Sunday with a doubleheader played at Hofstra University. The Mavericks dropped both games by final scores of 7-3 and 6-1. With the wins, the Lions improved to 10-14 (4-0 ECC), while the Mavericks slipped to 3-15-1 (0-4 ECC).

Game 1: Molloy 7, Mercy 3

The Lions scored in each of the first three innings, while Mercy got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a three-spot. In that inning, junior Nicholas Fiore (Wantagh, N.Y.) had an RBI single, while senior Andrew Bock (Malverne, N.Y.) drove in a run with an RBI groundout. At that point, the Mavericks cut their deficit to 5-3.

However, Molloy scored a pair of insurance runs in the sixth frame to secure the win. For the Mavericks, sophomore Anthony McQuade (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and freshman Steve Longo (Bayport, N.Y.) both went 2-for-4 at the dish.

Game 2: Molloy 6, Mercy 1

The Mavericks grabbed a quick lead in the top of the first inning when junior Jeremy Lovera (Carmel, N.Y.) scored on a wild pitch after reaching base on a fielder's choice. Molloy took back that run in the third when the Lions plated one on an RBI groundout.

Molloy was able to put up four runs in the fifth frame to take the lead for good. Catcher Ray McCourt had a three-run double for the Lions.

Out of the bullpen for Mercy, senior Tom Cummings (Coatesville, Pa.) threw 1.2 innings, surrendering one run on two hits. He relieved freshman starter Christian Hock (Trumbull, Conn.), who gave up five runs, all earned.

Monday's contest at Caldwell College was postponed due to inclement weather, so Head Coach Bob Greiner and the Mavericks return to action on Thursday when they host Queens College in ECC play. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
