Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Chestnut Hill, 16-9
Box Score PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Mar. 9, 2013) - On Saturday afternoon, the Mercy College women's lacrosse team defeated Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, Pa., 16-9. Junior Kristen Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) put forth a stellar performance scoring five goals and dishing out two assists. With the win, the Mavericks improved to 3-0. The Griffins slipped to 0-2 on the year.
Znaniecki nailed one of those goals in the first half as Mercy took a 7-5 lead into halftime.
Impressively, the Port Jefferson Station native scored four of her goals in the second stanza. She was able to provide the Mavericks with much insurance as they took down Chestnut Hill, 16-9.
In all, Znaniecki led the team with five goals and two assists, while sophomore Marissa Kluber (Wading River, N.Y.) put on an offensive showing of her own netting four goals. Junior Kelsey Bub (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) and sophomore Michelle Tiernan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) each scored a pair of tallies. Between the pipes, senior Stephanie DiLegge (Bay Shore, N.Y.) made 12 saves.
For the Griffins, Brianne Timony scored three goals, while Erica Eaby had two markers. In the cage, Jennifer Delahanty stopped eight shots.
Head Coach Dawn Anselmin and the Mavericks return to the field on Wednesday, Mar. 13 when they play at Philadelphia University. Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
