Baseball Takes Down Queens To Earn Conference Win

DOBBS FERRY (Apr. 1, 2013) - On Monday afternoon, the Mercy College baseball team closed out its four-game series with Queens College with a 3-1 victory over its East Coast Conference opponent. With the win, the Mavericks improved to 4-18-1 and 1-7 in the ECC, while the Knights fell to 6-13 and 5-3 in the league.

Down 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, senior Andrew Bock (Malverne, N.Y.) recorded an RBI single and junior Michael Dern (Roslyn, N.Y.) smacked a run-scoring double to give the Mavericks a 2-1 advantage.

In the bottom of the eighth, junior Jesus Jaile (Hartsdale, N.Y.) knocked in an insurance run with a single to give Mercy a 3-1 lead.

Junior starter Joseph O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y.) was terrific, hurling 8+ innings, giving up one run on nine hits, while striking out three. He moved to 1-3 on the year. Freshman Christian Hock (Trumbull, Conn.) entered the game in the ninth and locked down his first save of the year.

Head Coach Bob Greiner and the Mavericks return to action on Thursday when they host Dominican at 3:00 p.m.
