Baseball Closes Out Four-Game Series with STAC

POMONA, N.Y (Apr. 15, 2013) - - Junior Ken Post (Closter, N.J. / St. Joseph's Regional) went 3 for 4 at the plate as the Mavericks fell to St. Thomas Aquinas College 5-3. STAC improves to 22-10 overall, and 11-5 in the ECC, while the Mavericks fall to 6-27-1 overall, and 3-13 in conference play.

STAC didn't waste any time, scoring two runs in the bottom of first on a triple to center, and a wild pitch. Mercy answered in the next inning as Nicholas Fiore (Wantagh, N.Y. / MacArthur), RBI double got the Mavericks on the board. The Spartans and the Mavericks both traded quick 123 innings, until the bottom of the fifth after STAC scored on a Sacrifice Fly, which gave a 3-1 lead.
 

In the sixth, after a Post double, Anthony McQuade (Lindenhurst, N.Y. / St. John the Baptist (Chestnut Hill College)) singled to right, and the Mavericks cut the Spartans lead to 3-2 after five and a half. In top half of the eighth, McQuade drove in another run to make the score 4-3 as the Spartans came up to bat in the eighth. STAC would drove in another run to seal the deal on the game.

For Mercy, Joseph O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y. / Long Beach (Nassau CC) ) got the loss, but only give up three hits in six innings of work.
Coach Greiner and the Mavericks return to action on Friday April 19th, as they host the Purple Knights of Bridgeport University. The doubleheader begins at 1:30 pm.
