Baseball Battles in Pair of Non-Conference Matches This Week

NYACK, N.Y. - The Mercy College baseball team fell in a pair of non-conference contests this week. On Tuesday, the Mavericks lost to Nyack College, 12-9, while on Thursday, Mercy was defeated by Dominican College, 7-4. With the losses, the Mavericks' overall ledger stands at 7-32-1.

Tuesday: Nyack 12, Mercy 9

Sophomore Anthony McQuade (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and freshman Steve Longo (Bayport, N.Y.) both had two RBI, while junior Jeremy Lovera (Carmel, N.Y.) scored three times.

On the hill, rookie James Patterson (Cornwall, N.Y.) was strapped with the loss as he surrendered seven runs in 2.2 innings.

Thursday: Dominican 7, Mercy 4

Mercy banged out 13 hits in this game. Senior Andrew Bock (Malverne, N.Y.) went 4-for-5, while Lovera, Longo and junior Brendan Siegriest (Nanuet, N.Y.) recorded two hits each.

On the mound, senior Tom Cummings (Coatesville, Pa.) surrendered six runs over five innings pitched. He struck out three.

Head Coach Bob Greiner and the Mavericks return to action Friday when they play a doubleheader at Southern New Hampshire University. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
