Baseball Ventures to New Hampshire to Take on Non-Conference Opponent SNHU

MANCHESTER, N.H. (Apr. 26, 2013) - The Mercy College baseball team traveled to Manchester, N.H. to take on Southern New Hampshire University in doubleheader action. SNHU won both contests, 9-1 and 6-2. With the victories, the Penmen improved to 29-13, while the Mavericks fell to 7-34-1.

Game 1: SNHU 9, Mercy 1

Both squads had eight hits in this game, but the Mavericks weren't able to convert in scoring position. For Mercy, junior Michael Dern (Roslyn, N.Y.) finished 2-for-4, while freshman Steve Longo (Bayport, N.Y.) drove in the team's lone run. On the mound, sophomore Joseph O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y.) started the game and received the loss to drop to 2-6 on the season.

Game 2: SNHU 6, Mercy 2

Mercy outhit the Penmen, 7-6, but were once again unable to match them in runs. For Mercy, junior Jeremy Lovera (Carmel, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with a run scored. On the hill, rookie starting pitcher James Patterson (Cornwall, N.Y.) threw four innings and gave up four runs, while striking out four batters.

Head Coach Bob Greiner and the Mavericks return to action on Friday, May 3 when they open up their final series of the 2013 season at Dowling College. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
