Box Score 2 DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 27, 2013) - On Saturday, the Mercy College softball team split a doubleheader with East Coast Conference-foe Dowling College to move to 24-22 overall and 11-14 in the league. The day's action, coupled with Queens College's two losses to LIU Post, put Mercy and Queens in a deadlocked tie for the fourth and final seed in the ECC Postseason Tournament.
Game 1: Dowling 7, Mercy 3
Dowling scored in four of the game's first five innings to take a strong lead for the rest of the contest. Sophomore Chrissie Cleary (Smithtown, N.Y.) went 3-for-4 with a run scored, while junior Kelly Bentson (Brewster, N.Y.) was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Game 2: Mercy 11, Dowling 7
Tied 7-7 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Mavericks needed a win against Dowling to make it a little bit easier on themselves tomorrow versus Queens. Bentson broke up the tie with a bases-loaded walk, before sophomore Jackie Couillard (Wolcott, Conn.) ripped a bases-clearing double to give her team an 11-7 lead. The Mavericks held on to secure the split with the Golden Lions.
Head Coach Mike Fazio and the Mavericks will play a doubleheader versus Queens College (the current fourth seed in the ECC) tomorrow in Flushing, Queens. Prior to the twinbill, the two squads will resume the suspended game from April 4 (darkness).
