Women's Lacrosse Spars With No. 1 LIU Post in Conference Battle
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 3, 2013) - On Wednesday afternoon, the Mercy College women's lacrosse team hosted No.1 LIU Post in East Coast Conference action at Mavericks Field. The Pioneers defeated the Mavericks, 16-3 to improve to 8-0 and 2-0 in the ECC. Following the loss, Mercy dropped to 5-3 and 1-2 in the league.
The Mavericks got off to a nice start as they kept the ball in their offensive zone for the first five and a half minutes of the opening half. However, the Pioneers would go on to score five goals to Mercy's one in the first half.
In the second half, the Mavericks were able to score twice, but the Pioneers piled on nine tallies to secure a 16-3 victory.
For the Mavericks, senior Marissa Hurley (Shirley, N.Y.), senior Brittany Ott (Copaigue, N.Y.) and junior Kelsey Bub (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) all scored a goal each, while sophomore Nicole Kline (Deer Park, N.Y.) had an assist. Between the pipes, senior goalkeeper Stephanie DiLegge (Bay Shore, N.Y.) stopped nine shots.
For the Pioneers, Ashley Olen had seven goals, while Abbie Ross scored three times. In net, Dominique Mosca made eight saves.
Head Coach Dawn Anselmin and the Mavericks return to action on Wednesday, April 10 when they travel to Connecticut to take on ECC-foe the University of Bridgeport. The opening draw control is slated for 6:00 p.m.
