DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 5, 2013) - The Mercy College baseball team witnessed a fantastic outing by senior starting pitcher Tom Cummings (Coatesville, Pa.) on Friday afternoon as he hurled eight innings, giving up just two runs, while striking out nine. However, the Mavericks were able to only plate one run offensively and fell to the Pioneers of LIU Post, 2-1 at Mavericks Field.

With the win, the Pioneers improved to 10-8 overall and 3-2 in the East Coast Conference. Meanwhile, the Mavericks dropped to 4-20-1 on the year and 1-8 in the league.

Keith Herring led off the game with a home run to left center to give LIU Post a quick 1-0 lead. The Mavericks didn't trail for long, however, as junior third baseman Ken Post (Closter, N.J.) drove in junior second baseman Jeremy Lovera (Carmel, N.Y.) with an RBI groundout to tie the game at 1-1.

In the top of the fourth, John Bellock drove in the Pioneers' second run of the game with a groundout bunt to the pitcher.

After that, both pitchers continued to cruise and allowed no further runs. Mercy wasn't able to find the equalizer and LIU Post earned the conference victory.

Head Coach Bob Greiner and the Mavericks continue their four-game series with LIU Post tomorrow when they square off in doubleheader action at the home of the Pioneers beginning at 12:00 p.m.
