Softball Battles No. 20 Molloy in Conference Play

Box Score 2 DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 6, 2013) - On Saturday afternoon, the Mercy College softball squad hosted No. 20 Molloy College in an East Coast Conference doubleheader. The Lions won both games by a final score of 5-0. After today's action, Molloy improved to 26-6 overall and 9-1 in the ECC, while Mercy dropped to 12-13 and 5-5 in the league.
Mercy was only able to muster one hit against Molloy senior pitcher Megan Butterworth in Game 1.
In Game 2, Lions' senior starter Kelley Jansen proved to be just as stimey as she allowed just two hits to Mavericks' batters. Mercy junior starter Brittany Serrao (Lake Hiawatha, N.J.) pitched 3.2 innings and gave up five runs, but none were earned. Junior Jessica Simpson (Gilbert, Ariz.) was terrific out of the bullpen, hurling 3.1 shutout frames.
Head Coach Mike Fazio and the Mavericks return to action on Monday, Apr. 8 when they host a re-scheduled doubleheader from Mar. 20 against Goldey-Beacom College. The non-conference twinbill will begin at 2:00 p.m.
