Softball Sweeps Doubleheader With Goldey-Beacom, 7-2, 6-0

Box Score 2 DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 8, 2013) - On Monday afternoon, the Mercy College softball team swept a doubleheader from Goldey-Beacom College in non-conference action by final scores of 7-2 and 6-0. With the wins, the Mavericks improved to 14-13 overall. Following the losses, the Lightning slipped to 9-19 on the season.
Game 1: Mercy 7, Goldey-Beacom 2
Mercy put together a four-run second inning to grab an early lead. One inning later, freshman Taylor Concklin (Montgomery, N.Y.) and sophomore Chrissie Cleary (Smithtown, N.Y.) had RBI singles to make it 6-0 in favor of the Mavericks.
The hosts locked down the win despite a couple of runs in the later innings for Goldey-Beacom.
Mercy junior starter Brittany Serrao (Lake Hiawatha, N.J.) earned the win as she pitched four innings, allowing just four hits and striking out two. He record improved to 5-3 on the season.
Game 2: Mercy 6, Goldey-Beacom 0
Cleary started off the scoring for the Mavericks in the bottom of the second with an RBI double. In that inning, senior Courtney Butler (Islip, N.Y.) knocked in another run with a bunt single.
Two Lightning errors in the bottom of the third frame added two additional runs to Mercy's tally.
Junior starter Mary Sieber (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) threw four innings and gave up just two hits, earning her seventh win of the year. In three innings of relief, Serrao and junior Jessica Simpson (Gilbert, Ariz.) pitched shutout ball.
Head Coach Mike Fazio and the Mavericks return to action tomorrow (Apr. 9) when they travel to Long Island for an East Coast Conference twinbill against Dowling College. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
