Baseball Hosts Non-Conference Opponent East Stroudsburg
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 9, 2013) - On Tuesday afternoon, the Mercy College baseball team played East Stroudsburg University in a non-conference battle at Mavericks Field. The Warriors defeated the Mavericks, 12-5. With the triumph, the Warriors improved to 16-8, while the Mavericks dropped to 6-22-1.
In the top of the second inning, Joe Bennie gave East Stroudsburg an early 4-0 lead when he drove the ball to deep centerfield and cleared the bases with an inside-the-park grand slam. The Warriors added two more runs one inning later when Chris Knott recorded a two-run triple.
Down 8-1 in the bottom of the sixth, senior Andrew Bock (Malverne, N.Y.) blasted a two-run triple and junior Jeremy Lovera (Carmel, N.Y.) had an RBI single to cut the Mavericks' deficit to 8-4.
However, the Warriors would go on to plate four more runs to increase their lead and win, 12-5.
For Mercy, freshman pitcher Nick Caruso (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) was stellar, throwing three shutout innings of relief, striking out four. Rookie starter James Patterson (Cornwall, N.Y.) received the loss and saw his record drop to 0-6.
In the batter's box, Bock finished 2-for-5 with one run scored and two RBI, while sophomore Anthony McQuade (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
Head Coach Bob Greiner and the Mavericks return to action tomorrow (Apr. 10) when they take on Felician College at 2:30 p.m.
