Ballin Scores Late as Field Hockey Falls to American International, 3-1
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Sept. 14, 2013)- Freshman Jacyln Ballin (Cupertino, Calif. / Cupertino) scored in the 69th minute as the Mavericks fell to the Yellow Jackets of American International College, 3-1. The Mavericks fall to 0-4, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 3-1.
AIC wasted no time scoring just four minutes into the game and putting the Mavericks behind the eight ball early. The Mavericks had a tough time moving the ball into the offensive zone, as AIC led 1-0 at the half.
In the second half, AIC continued the same trend as they would score just eight minutes in, to lead 2-0 in the 43rd minute. After AIC added one more insurance goal, Mercy finally got on the scoreboard when Ballin got out on the break and beat the goalie for the score.
For Mercy, Nicole Bencsik (Telford, Pa. / Souderton Area) led the team by taking four total shots, while Ballin, and Marissa Kluber (Wading River, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River) both took two shots each. Goalie Kristen Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. / Comsewogue) had 11 saves in 70 minutes of work in the cage.
Coach Kayte Kinsley and the Mavericks return to action on Monday September 16th, as they travel to Worcester, MA to take on the Greyhounds of Assumption College at 7:00 pm.
