Volleyball Rallies to Force Fifth Set but Comes up Short at Nyack, 3-2
Box Score NYACK, N.Y. (Sept. 18, 2013) – The Mercy College volleyball team rallied from a two-set deficit to force a fifth that extended into extra points before finally bowing out at Nyack College, 3-2, on Wednesday night.
Mercy drops to 3-4 on the season while Nyack improves to 4-6.
The Warriors took the first set, 25-19, despite the Mavericks posting a superior hitting percentage (.286 vs. .233) and nipped the second set after eight extra points were played, 30-28. Mercy was far from out of it at that point, however, and responded by taking the next two sets, 25-20 and 25-23, to force a decisive fifth set.
Unfortunately for the Mavericks, they seemed to run out of gas as they posted a match-low .032 hitting percentage and the Warriors just managed to edge them out for the 16-14 win and 3-2 match victory.
Head Coach Kelly Wengerter and the Mavericks will look to bounce back tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 19 as they travel to Felician College (1-4).
