Keshinro Dominates Again With Fifth Double-Double at ECC Foe Daemen

AMHERST, N.Y. (Jan. 26, 2014) – Senior Olajide Keshinro (Brooklyn, N.Y. / SUNY Cobleskill) recorded his fifth double-double of the season as the Mercy College men's basketball team closed out its upstate weekend road trip at new East Coast Conference foe Daemen College on Sunday afternoon.

Keshinro dominated the matchup for the second time this season, following up his 25-point, 14-rebound performance on Jan. 6 with game-highs of 22 points (on an incredible 9-of-12 shooting) and 10 rebounds to go along with three assists and two blocks.

Mercy's record now stands at 1-16 overall and 1-10 in the ECC while Daemen improves its win streak to five and record to 12-6 (9-3).

Keshinro immediately made his presence felt, scoring the first five points of the game on a jumper and converting an and-one two-and-a-half minutes into the game.  He would post game-highs of 11 points and five rebounds bovver the first half.

Mercy held the lead through 9-6 before Daemen took over, stretching out to a 13-point margin by the break at 37-24.  The Wildcats extended the lead to as many as 34 points before the Mavericks staged a late rally to trim the deficit back to 14 by the end in the 82-68 Daemen victory.

Seniors LeBrandon Smith (Jamaica, N.Y. / Archbishop Molloy) and P.J. Walters (Hempstead, N.Y. / Wheaton College) joined Keshinro in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively, combining to go 8-of-14 from the field.  Sophomore Nate Stitchell (Coventry, R.I. / Coventry) dished out a season- and career-high eight assists, besting his previous two-time mark of six this year and seven last season.

The Mavericks saw a season-high 11 players score during the game, including junior Adam Black (Oklahoma City, Okla.), a spring roster addition who drained his first career jumper attempt and grabbed four rebounds in just five minutes of action.  Freshman Chris Cavalieri (Holbrook, N.Y. / St. Thomas More) set a career mark with five points on a perfect 1-of-1 from three-point range and 2-of-2 mark at the free throw line.

Head Coach Adam Parmenter and the Mavericks will return to the Metro area for a rivalry matchup at St. Thomas Aquinas College (8-8, 4-6) on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
