DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 1, 2014)- Sophomore Vanessa Soler (Port Monmouth, N.J. / Middletown North) scored the game-tying goal, off an assist from freshman Geraldine Grandprez (Wanze, Belgium /IHECS Bruxelles), as the Mercy College field hockey team faced the Golden Bears of Kutztown University on Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Bears improve to 4-4 overall with the 4-1 victory, while the Mavericks fall to 0-8 overall.

If you blinked, you may have missed the Golden Bears first goal, as they scored nearly two minutes into the game.

Mercy would respond in the 25th minute, as Grandprez ripped a shot off a pass from senior Giana Magosin (Pleasantville, N.J. / Egg Harbor Township). Soler was positioned on the right side of the goal as the ball headed towards her. Soler was able to tap-in the ball, which tied the game up at 1-1.

No scoring took place the rest of the half and the game remained tied, 1-1, at halftime.

In the second half, the Golden Bears took control of the game, as they scored three unanswered goals in a six minute span to come away with the 4-1 win.

For Mercy, sophomore Jackie Ballin (Cupertino, Calif. / Cupertino) took a team-high four shots, while senior Danielle Jones (Shrewsbury, Mass. / Shrewsbury) made four defender saves.

Head Coach Kayte Kinsley and the Mavericks return to action on Sunday Oct. 5, as they travel to Waltham, Mass. to take on the Falcons of Bentley University at 12:00 p.m.
