Diaz Makes Season Debut as Men's Soccer Faces ECC Foe UDC
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 11, 2014)- Junior Christian Diaz (Watsonville, Calif. / Univ. of Vermont) made his 2014 season debut and took four shots, as the Mercy College men's soccer team faced the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia on Saturday afternoon.
The Firebirds improved to 7-4-1 overall and 3-2 in the ECC, while the Mavericks fall to 3-9 overall and 2-3 in the ECC.
UDC scored a goal in each half to pick up the 2-0 victory.
Despite UDC getting the victory, the Mavericks outshot the Firebirds 12-6, and dominated on corner kicks, 11-1.
For Mercy, senior Danny Leon Jr. (Flushing, N.Y. / Benjamin Cardozo) took three shots and sophomore Luis Lizarzaburu (Yorktown Heights, N.Y. / Yorktown) made one save in 90 minutes of work.
Head Coach Chris Smith and the Mavericks return to action on Wednesday Oct. 15, as the host the Bears of NYIT at 3:00 p.m.
