DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 11, 2014)- Senior MacKenzie Cochrane (Mission Viejo, Calif. / Fresno State University) nailed a header in the 11th minute, which helped the No. 16 Mercy College women's soccer team knock off the previously undefeated Golden Lions of Dowling College, 1-0.

The Mavericks improve to 11-1 overall, and 5-0 in the East Coast Conference, while the Golden Lions fall to 8-3-1 overall, and 5-1 in the ECC.

After making short work of Nyack on Thursday, Mercy welcomed Dowling to Mavericks field for the second of three big tests' this season.

The Mavericks scored on only their second shot of the game. Junior Jessica DeLeon (Phoenix, Ariz. / Paradise Valley CC) sailed a free kick into the box, and Cochrane connected with the ball on a diving header for the score.

Mercy held the early 1-0 advantage.

Cochrane almost scored again before the half, as she headed a ball which clanked off the crossbar. The score remained the same as both teams hit the locker room for halftime.

In second half, Dowling started to get off shots as they failed to get any off in the first half.

The Golden Lions failed to score on any of their six shots taken in the first half, as Mercy took the game to remain undefeated in conference play.

For Mercy, junior Nicole Augustine (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) earned her sixth shutout of the season, and the 15th of her career.

Head Coach Jonathan Feinstein and the No. 16 Mavericks return to action on Wednesday Oct. 15, as they host the Bears of NYIT at 1:00 p.m.
