RINDGE, N.H. (Oct. 11, 2014)-  Senior Giana Magosin (Pleasantville, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) and freshman Geraldine Grandprez (Wanze, Belgium / IHECS Bruxelles)  scored, as the Mercy College field hockey team defeated the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University 2-1 in a penalty shootout.

The Mavericks improve to 1-10, while the Ravens fall to 2-6

The Ravens attacked early, but they had two shots blocked in the first 10 minutes. Grandprez had a golden opportunity to score at the 16:17 mark, but her shot hit the post.

The game remained scoreless at the half.

In the second half the Ravens pushed hard to get the first goal, but  freshman Olivia Kelly (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) and the Mercy defense kept Franklin Pierce from lighting up the scoreboard.

After two overtime periods, and 100:00 minutes played the game entered a penalty stroke shootout.

During the shootout, Magosin and Grandprez connected on back-to-back penalty strokes for the Mavericks.

The pressure was then on Franklin Pierce to score. The Ravens turned to Andrea Fahey and Carly Canavan. Kelly stepped up and made saves against Fahey and Canavan.

For Mercy, Kelly picked up the win and made seven saves in the process.

Head Coach Kayte Kinsley and the Mavericks return to action tomorrow, Oct. 12, as they will host the Lions of Lindenwood University at 1:00 p.m.
