Ballin Scores as Field Hockey Faces Lindenwood University

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 12, 2014)- Sophomore Jackie Ballin (Cupertino, Calif. / Cupertino) scored off an assist from senior Kristine Carl (Kingston, N.Y. / Kingston), as the Mercy College field hockey team faced the Lions of Lindenwood University on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions improve to 6-4 with the 2-1 win, while the Mavericks fall to 1-11.

Lindenwood scored the first goal of the afternoon in the 38th minute, as Asthon Lichvar scored on a tap-in from Karlie Quinn for a 1-0 lead.

The Mavericks would even the game up at 1-1 in the 65th minute. Ballin made a pass to senior Giana Magosin (Pleasantville, N.J. / Egg Harbor Township) on a penalty corner. Magosin made a quick pass to Carl, who rifled a shot at the goal. Ballin was able to get in front of the ball and tap it in for the score.

Lindenwood responded less than a minute later, as they scored an unassisted game-winning goal.

For Mercy, freshman Olivia Kelly (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) made five saves in 70 minutes of work.

Head Coach Kayte Kinsley and the Mavericks return to action on Saturday Oct. 25, as they will travel to St. Charles Mo. to face the Knights of Bellarmine University on the Lindenwood University campus at 3:00 p.m.
