White Record 14 Kills as Volleyball Faces Bridgeport

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 2, 2014)- Senior Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev. / Douglas) recorded 14 kills, as the Mercy College volleyball team faced the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport on Thursday evening.

The Purple Knights improve to 12-1 overall, and 7-0 in the East Coast Conference with the 3-0 victory, while the Mavericks' fall to 3-12 overall, and 0-6 in the ECC.

Bridgeport came out of the gate fast, as they took the first set, 25-15. In the second set, Mercy put up a fight early, as they tied the game at 8-8 on back-to-back kills for White. Bridgeport eventually closed out the set on a 14-2 run.

In the third set, Mercy held an early 3-1 lead on back-to-back kills for White. Bridgeport came back and took the lead, but Mercy looked like they had an outside chance to take the set. One of White's final kills tied the game up at 17-17, but once again the Purple Knights rallied to win the set and the match.

For Mercy, senior McKenna Ronan (Chandler, Ariz. / Seton Catholic Prep) had 19 assists and six digs, while junior Abi Foti (Bedford, N.H. / Bedford) added five kills.

Head Coach Kelly Wengerter and the Mavericks return to action on Saturday Oct. 4, as they travel to Pleasantville, N.Y. to face the Setters of Pace University at 11:00 a.m.
